Our year

From vine to bottle

A year at Mtevani in five steps – scroll along with the seasons.

  1. March

    Pruning the vines

Each vine is pruned by hand, leaving only the strongest canes. Fewer grapes, more taste.

  2. September

    The harvest

Family, neighbours and friends pick the grapes into wicker baskets – with songs and a long lunch.

  3. September

    Pressing in the satsnakheli

The grapes are pressed in a wooden trough. Juice, skins and seeds go together into the qvevri.

  4. October – April

    Resting in the qvevri

Buried in the cool earth, the wine ferments and rests on its skins all winter long.

  5. May

    Into the bottle

The qvevri are opened, the clear wine is drawn off and bottled by hand – ready for your table.
